Yoga a day may keep asthma away

Get a daily yoga dose: While regular Down Dogs won’t allow you to ditch your asthma inhaler completely, you may find yourself needing it less often.

A recent review of 10 studies found that a regular yoga practice can increase overall quality of life for asthmatics, helping them to sleep better, reduce their use of medications, and miss fewer days of work. It’s likely because of yoga’s focus on deep breathing, which exercises the lungs, as well as its stress- and anxiety-reducing effects, says Clifford Bassett, MD, medical director of Allergy & Asthma Care of New York and a fellow of the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology.
