Ease into HIIT

by Team Yogahood

Your vinyasa practice may keep you fit, but it doesn’t necessarily prepare your body for high-intensity interval training (HIIT). A University of British Columbia study found that non-athletes showed signs of harmful stress in their muscle tissues after two weeks of HIIT. The muscle cells were only firing at half-power post-training, reducing their capacity to fight free-radical damage. To HIIT safely, “start slow—a couple days a week—under the supervision of an experienced coach,” says Jason Khalipa, owner of NC Fit and a former CrossFit Games champion.
