If ever there was a time to slow down your pace of life a notch or two, as well as your yoga flow so you could experience more calm, it’s now. A lot has happened this year with Covid-19 . So now is the perfect time to reflect and find the silence within, and be part of a slow-yoga revolution in the world that is pushing back against the pumped-up, power-crazed yoga styles that have gained widespread popularity in recent years.
“For many, Power Yoga and hot yoga have become like that friend you initially hit if off with, but after a while of hanging out together, the friendship feels negative and draining,” says J. Brown of the Abhyasa Yoga Center in Brooklyn, New York. “Eventually, you drift apart. The slow-yoga revolution is the antidote—like that old friend who’ll always be there for you.”
So, swap your go-to vigorous class for a restorative one, or simply take your emphasis off accomplishing something and be more interested in what you’re experiencing in the present moment. Then, watch as you find more joy—both on and off the mat.
